How to Select the Right Pillow to Improve Your Quality of Sleep

Nothing kick starts your day better than a good night’s sleep, which depends on many factors, including the quality of your pillow. With so many different pillows to choose from on the market, bringing home the right one can be difficult. Hard or soft, thick or thin, latex or memory foam, you have plenty of materials to choose from. It is important to keep in mind that there is no ‘one size fits all’ solution when it comes to pillow. You have to choose a pillow based on your body shape, size, and preferred posture. Let’s delve into the basics of selecting the right pillow that will improve your quality of sleep.

• If you are a back sleeper, you should go for a thin pillow so that your head is not thrown too far ahead. In addition, invest in a pillow with extra loft on the bottom that will cradle your neck.
• If you are a side sleeper, go for a firm pillow that will bridge the gap between the outside shoulder and the ear.
• If you prefer sleeping on your stomach, choose a pillow that is thin and almost flat.

Choosing the Right Stuffing
Here’s what you need to look for in each type of pillow filling:

Foam: Focus on the density. The denser your pillow is, the lower the chances that it will break down. Plus, a pillow with a solid density offers more support.
Memory Foam: This option is popular as it helps reduce pressure points by molding and adjusting to your body shape continuously throughout the night.
Latex: This pillow type is the firmest, and resists dust mites and mold. These pillows are designed to help with neck and spine alignment, as they provide adequate neck support.
Cotton and/or Wool: Cotton and wool pillows are hypoallergenic and resist dust mites and mold. Additionally, they are sturdy, which means if you love soft pillows, you aren’t going to like these.
Feather/Down: This type of pillow is recommended by many sleep experts and is considered among the best choices for a good night’s sleep as it offers much-needed support and is also soft and comfortable.

A good pillow won’t come cheap, so be prepared to spend a little extra but without going overboard.
